The Washington Town Council approved a special use permit for Mary Ann Kuhn to run a bed and breakfast in “The Maples,” which she intends to purchase from Newbill and Carol Miller.
The sales contract for the property was contingent on Ms. Kuhn raceiving her special use permit.
Ms. Kuhn said that she and her husband had split up and that she chose to stay in Rappahannock. She decided that she wanted a historic house, and wanted to be part of a community such as Washington.
Her plans are to preserve “The Maples” and have five rooms available for the bed and breakfast business. She will also live in the house full-time. She said, ‘To me this endeavor is more of a personal commitment to this town than a business.”
Town Attorney Frank Reynolds said that the Rappahannock County Health Department is prepared to issue a conditional permit to Ms. Kuhn, and that the alternate drainfield on the property should remain undisturbed. VDOT said
