doctors for its pharmacy. The Fauquier Hospital provides clients with free basic diagnostic testing, including urinalyses, blood work and Xrays.
Blue Cross Blue Shield contributes $25,000 annually to every free clinic in the state, in hopes of cutting down on the use of hospital emergency rooms for primary care. Virginia Commonwealth University is presently Working on a study to see if the free clinics have put a dent in the amount of emergency room use for other than real emergencies.
An eight-week course, “The Mothering Workshop,” sponsored by the clinic, will begin on Monday, Sept. 12. It is open to residents of Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties. Classes will be geared toward pregnant women and teens, and will cover subjects ranging from health during pregnancy to options in birthing.
The course is made possible through a grant from the March of Dimes Foundation. It will take place at the Warrenton United Methodist Church at 341 Church St., Room C23, from 10 a. m to 12 noon on Mondays, Sept. 12 through Oct. 31. Free babysitting will also be provided.
