horse when she was 12. She grew up in Michigan, where most riding is done Western style, and taught Western for 19 years. At Rainbow Run, she teaches Western-style riding besides doing the trail rides, and presently has eight regular students.
Except for a short hiatus from riding, Mrs. Gleason has always been around horses. When she and her family moved to Woodbridge from the Midwest, they discovered Rainbow Run Stables in Sperryville and began riding there often.
Mr. Atkins informed Mrs. Gleason when he was thinking of retiring and she jumped at the idea of purchasing his horses. She took possession of them last December “just before the bad weather set in,” she said. During the ice storms, the horses were upset by the sound of the freezing rain hitting the barn roof, so Mrs. Gleason spent several nights consoling the horses in the two barns. While on trail rides, though, she said that nothing will spook the horses, not thunder, other animals, or anything.
On weekends, Mrs. Gleason’s husband, daughter and son help out with the trail rides. She lives out here all the time, but the rest of her family still resides in Woodbridge. On Aug. 6, 7 and 8, when the weather was probably the best of this year, she had 55 people for trail rides. I
She said that most weekdays are usually slow, but weekends and Mondays are her busiest days.
