Last Friday, Aileen employeesat the plant in Victoria, Va., south*. west of Petersburg, received notifi-' cation that plant would also beclosing in 60 days. Workers at the Victoria plant produce clothing that* matches clothing made at Flint HilL: One plant makes the “tops” and the other makes the “bottoms.” Accord-' ing to Mr. Fadely, only the Edin-" burg and Woodstock plants wouldremain open in Virginia when the' Flint Hill and Victoria plants close.
Many workers have not been trained in other jobs and will have a difficult time finding something else. However, Jerry Larkins, who is the' manager of employment transition services for the Virginia Employment Commission, plans on visiting with management at the Flint Hill plant sometime this week to assess the needs of the employees.
He said that all employees will be eligible for all the services provided by the Dislocated Workers’ Program, which is specifically designed for people who have lost their jobs. Job training will be one of the services offered the employees.
Mr. Fadely said the plant and the house next to it, which the plant manager used to live in, will be put up for sale. County Administrator John McCarthy was contacted to see if there are any plans for possible future uses for the building, and he said there were none.
The Flint Hill plant would have celebrated its 32nd anniversary this October. I
