“No one could get through. Both lanes were flooded with about three feet of water,” she said.

She said cars would try to drive through the water, and she tried to flag down a camper to warn the occupants of the flooded road, but it kept going. “I tried my hardest to flag them down. I saw the camper hit its brakes and then it just disappeared,” she said. “The lights just disappeared and we don’t know what happened.”

Mrs. Lauterback and her husband sat in their truck-camper for two to three hours before rescue crews and State Police troopers were able to re-route the traffic onto ' U.S. 522 to Front Royal.
