On the School Board seeking voter support will J)e a new experience for members who have recently been appointed by the Board of Supervisors. In 1992 county voters chose overwhelmingly to replace the appointed board with an elected one.
Chairman Beverly Massie, who represents Jackson District, said, “I haven’t fully made up my mind” on whether or not to seek election. She said she was concerned about the possibility of the board having all new members next January right at the beginning of the process of putting together a budget. She said she hopes the board continues to represent "the makeup of the whole county with no special interest group. We have a diverse group on the board now,” she added. “The public has to get off their duffs and be more concerned about what’s going on around them in local as well as national issues,” she said.
Vice chairman Paul Nichols, who represents WakefiekMJistrict, s^id he does not intend to'work qualify for the ballot. “If the people want me to serve they can write my name in,” he said.
