The annual Fourth of July festival held last week in the Town of Washington was full of excitement and fun. There were events and things to do and see all day. Gay Street offered/ savory delights and interesting displays from one end to the other. Children frolicked on the lawn of Avon Hall and the music pulled it all together. From top left clockwise: the entertainment was fantastic right down to the washtub band which marched down the street to bring up the rear of the children’s bicycle parade; fireworks exploded into the night sky over the pond at Avon Hall; Bob Anderson of the Rappahannock Lions Club adds garnishes to the fixins for the food the club was dishing up for their annual fundrasier; great food was avaiable in a variety of forms; the Alexandria Royal Fyfes, Drums and Trumpets were superb, especially during the fireworks; igniting fireworks is not as .easy as the pros make it look; entertainment was held at various locations including in front of the Rappahannock County Court House where these singers performed; several local citizens dressed for the day as famous patriotic characters like Betsy Ross shown here. Other delights included many crafts and artwork by such local artists as Jensen Kvarnes of Washington, who had handblown glass items for sale.
