flight, and bath by flying through water. Short dead twigs for nests, glued by the swift’s saliva to the inside of chimneys, are collected while the birds are in twittering flight. The birds break off these tiny twigs with their feet when they pass over trees. Only recently has it been proved that the cigar-shaped birds actually mate in flight. Swifts are indeed, lords of the air. Chimney Swifts disappear from the Virginia sky in October. Where do they spend the winter months?
