A great fourth? Depending on who you talk to, the Fourth of July festival was either great, or not so great. Some local restaurants had tables full all day. Others had few customers. The parking fees got out of hand when different prices were charged for local residents or those from out of town and when prices were charged for lots the town was being let use free. Those who were nice enough to donate the lots free were never informed. Quite a few people have said there were not nearly as many people here this year as in previous years. Others have said, “Good! We don’t want all those people here anyway.” Certainly the celebrations in Culpeper, at Great Meadow, Airlie and in Luray had something to do with that and will no doubt continue to do so. Finally, there’s something about listening to a fan* tastic band play “Your A Grand Ole’ Flag” as a repre; sentation of the Stars and Stripes bums brightly into ' the night air, or your child holding tightly to your . hand amid thousands of people all singing the nation* al anthem, that really gets to you where you live. And the rest hardly seems to matter at all.
New policy good * The state’s new policy on domestic violence should * have everyone standing up and cheering. Finally law I enforcement officials and courts have a way to put * bite into the cases being prosecuted for domestic vio- lence. Hopefully, people will begin to wake up and find : other ways to resolve their problems and differences besides beating the devil out of someone else. And, maybe, it will help victims step up in court, tell the truth and put a stop to letting it continue.
