She continued working for the rehab center until 1978 at which time she went to work for Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Health Board as the extended care coordinator for the five county area. She held this position for four years.
“It was an administrative position mostly,” she said and she felt it left much to be desired. She felt a deep desire to get into counseling again and interact with people on a personal level — to be able again to do more.
She established a private practice, but doing so was not without its difficulties.
She worried about being able to pay the bills at the end of the month while she was getting established.
