Residents throughout Washington, Va. awoke Sunday morning to find their mailboxes destroyed. The vandals apparently hit the posts with clubs to knock them down and pulled the mailboxes off" their posts.

The vandalism occurred on Tiger Valley Road, Long Mountain Road, Rock Mills Road, Main Street, Fodderstack Road, Resettlement Road, Strother Lane, Kvames Lane, Ridge View Lane, Dearing Road, Harley Lane, and Keyser Rim Road.

Twenty destroyed mailboxes were reported, but even more may have occurred. According to Phil Irwin, owner of Caledonia Farms, 71 mailboxes were involved in the vandalism. Irwin is insured by the Farm Bureau.

The insurance company has a rewards program that will give $1000 reward to anybody who offers information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual responsible for the vandalism. Irwin will offer an additional $500 to the informant, making the total reward $1500.
