The company’s planning included significantly increased staffing on New Year’s Eve, with approximately 1,200 employees working at power stations, substations, service centers, corporate centers and other key locations.
Rappahannock Electric Cooperative
Rappahannock Electric Cooperative announced that there were no service interruptions reported at or after the midnight rollover time on Dec. 31, 1999.
“Our preparedness and hard work paid off,” c6mmented Bruce Barnett, manager of administrative services, who oversaw REC’s Y2K remediation and compliance efforts. “New Year’s Eve was just another day for us and we hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.”
REC began evaluating their systems in 1998 and remediation and testing of all systems was completed in December of 1999.
F&M Bank
Like the aforementioned' companies, local banks experienced no difficulties either. Jean Kresge, branch manager of F&M Bank in Flint Hill attributes the successful transition to “things that have been done over the course of the last year. We had to be in compliance. It took awhile to do that, but it worked.”
