Cletus Franklin “Frank” Young, 72, of Front Royal died Friday, Dec. 31 in the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 4 at the Community Faith Baptist Church in Front Royal by Rev. Larry Andrews and Rev. Bobby Andrews. Burial followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Young was born Feb. 11, 1927 in Washington, Va., son of James and Temprest Printz Young. He served as the first Chief of Police of the City of Fairfax. He was a signalman 3rd class and an anti-aircraft gunner on the Navy Destroyer McClelland at the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II earning the Asiatic Pacific Medal with three stars and the Victory Medal. He was an active member and deacon of the Community Faith Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothea C.A. Young; a son, Larry F. Young and his wife, Susan; a daughter, Cartherine A. Crone and her husband, John; stepsons, Larry L. Andrews, Bobby R. Andrews, Jack L. Andrews, Ronnie Andrews; a brother, Arthur H. Young; a sister, Bonnie Judd; 17 grandchildren3 and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, a daughter Donna M. Nigh and a step-son, Billy R. » Andrews.
