In order ■; to keep up longevity, an artist !1 must search for ideas and inspiration. One of Strange’s !. biggest influences has been ; photography. Strange sites j; Annie Leibowitz, the famous • photographer whose shots 1 have graced the covers of ; Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone, as one of her biggest influences.
And from a certain dis• tance, a school of fish that I; Strange has painted on a ); series of tiles that adorn a ; kitchen wall has a photo-like Equality. The fish almost !, appear to be real.
Strange says, “I started off ! just painting on tiles. I did go ; to art school. I went to the • Corcoran, but I never took a ! painting course there. I !; always took photography and • graphic design.”
Strange wanted to create art that was practical so that • she could sell it. She enjoys i what she is doing and the I traveling her craft affords her. ; This past spring, Strange and « her husband, Phillip, traveled u to Morocco for a vacation. Morocco is known for its painted tiles and ceramics. The Stranges had the opportunity to see many examples of the foreign country’s art.
She says, “I was just fascinated with their pottery and so I painted a lot of that for awhile.”
