If this trend continues though, We will not he seeing anything like forty degrees later in January, and might wish to travel en masse to the Bahamas for a Rappahannock convocation or, perhaps, to attend the February meeting of the Board of Supervisors (if they have the presence of mind to convene it a bit southward).
According to an Accuweather meteorologist, we have weak Pacific Ocean activity and the concomitant ability of Atlantic phenomenon to perform upper atmospheric blocking to blame for the too winter weather. He suggests that, though we should see near normal average temperatures, there will be some "outstanding outbreaks of arctic air."
It appears that so far we have experienced little but those outstanding outbreaks of arctic air, but maybe he'll be proven right, and the temperatures will moderate to give us the near normal temperatures that look rather good right now. If not, there's always the Bahamas.
