Roy Cleveland Whorton, 72, of Amissville died Friday, Dec. 29 at Fauquier Hospital in Warren ton.
He was born May 28, 1928 in Rappahannock County to the late Henry and Lilly Cloud Whorton.
Mr. Whorton was a member of Massanova Pentecostal Church in Castleton. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Settle Whorton; three sons, Gary Whorton of Viewtown, Forrest Whorton of Castleton and Martin Whorton of Amissville and one daughter, Cathy Frazier of Amissville.
Additional survivors include 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Frank Whorton of Centreville, Irving Whorton of Linden and George Whorton of Castleton and three sisters, Ressie Utz of Falling Waters, W.Va., Mary Elizabeth Dodson of Front Royal and Eunice Whorton of Amissville.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Whorton was also predeceased by three brothers, Charles Whorton, Robert Whorton and John Whorton and three sisters, Grace Corbin, Virginia Clatterbuck and Lou Ada Brown.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at Found & Sons Chapel with Rev. L.D. Savage officiating.
Interment followed at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Jeffersonton with honors provided by the Culpeper American Legion Post #330 and the Culpeper V.F.W. Post #2524.
Pallbearers were Ronald Frazier Sr., Greg Freeman, Benjamin Whorton, Aaron Whorton, Jonathan Whorton and Patrick Hill.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Frazier II, Zane Wharton and Phillip Whorton.
