The Child Care and Learning Center (CCLC) is seeking a special use permit to create eight apartments in the front section of the old Washington School on Mount Salem Avenue in the Tbwn of Washington.
A public hearing on CCLC’s request is set for Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. before the Washington Tbwn Council.
Affordable housing for professional young adults is difficult to find in Rappahannock County and “we believe our proposed apartments will help meet this demand, while providing CCLC the funds needed to maintain the school property in coming years,” said CCLC’s board of directors in an executive statement.
The late William Carrigan donated the Washington School property to the Child Care and Learning Center in the summer of 1999. It currently is zoned rural residential.
