Opinion
The division he referred to is one between those who wish for the town to retain its rural personality and those who want to see it more responsive to businesses, especially those businesses that cater to the upscale tourist.
The opposing visions that he spoke of are not bad — few would say that either is inherently wrong — but it is perhaps the means of pursuit of the visions, that has, in Mr. Willis’ eyes, caused him the disquiet that led to his resignation.
He expressed disappointment over the council’s recent move to defer any decision on pursuit of the Avon Hallbased wastewater treatment system until “new opportunities” are investigated and, in fact, it appears as this one action by the council was the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.
Mr. Willis is convinced, he said, that the solution agreed upon by the Tbwn Council, in its past iteration, would satisfy immediate requirements and provide room for expansion adequate to accommodate reasonable growth, but “it couldn’t support three more Inns at Little Washington.”
He said that he and Steve Critzer ^ had, over a year ago, looked at the “new opportunity’ that the council is again investigating and, he added, that “it couldn’t work then but, because of a change in politics, it’s possible now.”
