The winery itself includes a tasting room, cellar, production area and twelve acres of grapes. The Kellerts also lease land in other parts of the state and buy grapes from Rappahannock growers. The reason for this is not all grape vines grow well in all areas.
For example, the fickle GerwJj rtztraminer grape—which tends to rot before it ripens — they buy from a vineyard located on the eastern shore of Virginia.
Gray Ghost is currently hosting an event they call “Sundays in the Library”. The library is the 56 degree, below-ground wine cellar where they set aside a few bottles from each year’s vintage. They have in their collection bottles dating back to 1993 which was their first year of production.
