He listed examples of the services that require tax monies: public schools, solid waste disposal, fire and rescue, police. The fact that counties need money to run is understood by all. Our schools are supported by county and state funds. Rappahannock County voted for the Virginia education bond last November to help in funding schools.
In the northern and southern areas of the county we have no waste disposal facilities. Most of us travel 30 to 44 miles round trip to the nearest dump locations in Amissville and Sperryville.
Fire and rescue services are supported by our taxes and by individual contributions to each district and by the wonderful volunteers. Our police are invaluable and, I believe, solely supported by our tax money.
These very basic needs always seem to be mentioned when administrators talk about taxation. Alternatives to cutting essential services exist.
