Recent reviews of Land Use assessments by the Office of Commissioner of Revenue Beverly Atkins has resulted in a number of Land Use Taxation rollbacks that have some property owners in the county digging deeper in their pockets than they may have wished.
The recent rollbacks in Rappahannock County affected “50 or 60 cases out of 2,000 applications,” according to Ms. Atkins, and resulted in roughly $85,000 in additional revenue to the county.
According to Ms. Atkins, every owner who benefited from lower Land Use Taxation and had failed to conduct adequate agricultural, horticultural, or forestal activities had received adequate warning to meet their obligations before being dropped from the tax deferment program.
