NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING TO AMEND CHAPTER 151, TAXATION, OF THE RAPPAHANNOCK COUNTY CODE The Board of Supervisors of Rappahannock County proposes to adopt an Ordinance amending Chapter 151 of the Rappahannock County Code, dealing with taxes administered by the County, which amendments are summarized as follows: A. Article XI, “Penalties and Interest:" 1. to make uniform penalty an interest provisions for all taxes administered by the County, to wit: a late filing fee of 10%. a late payment fee of 10%, and an interest rate on delinquent taxes of 10% per year: 2. to provide for the collection of attorneys fees required to collect delinquent taxes; 3. to pay taxpayers 10% interest on erroneous assessments: 4. to provide criminal penalties for failure to file, for fraudulent statements and for failure to pay over taxes held in trust. B. Article XII, “Tax Relief for the Elderly and Disabled:" 1. to increase from $75,000 to $100,000 the combined financial worth owners of an exempt property may have before they are disqualified from tax relief; 2. to increase the amount of combined income the owners of an exempt property may have before the are disqualified from tax relief, such amount not to exceed $50,000. C. Article XV, “Local License for Activities Approved by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board:" 1. to provide the amount of the license tax payable to the County shall not exceed the amount payable to the State for the corresponding ABC license None of the proposed amendments shall have the effect of increasing any tax, creating any additional tax. nor changing any due date. A public hearing on the proposed ordinance shall be held at 7:30 PM on 3 March 2003 in the Rappahannock County Courthouse on Gay Street in Washington, Virginia.
