She and her husband, who has also performed with the band, had the tremendous responsibility for nurturing a foster child. Instead Mr. Fournier sexually violated this minor and Mrs. Fournier chose not to report it. This is a travesty for which both Mr. and Mrs. Fournier should bear the responsibility.
Because this music teacher is seen as indispensable to Rappahannock schools, the system has compromised the value of a foster child. Families need to fully trust teachers and school officials to always do the right thing and to embrace and protect children regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, and status within the community.
Furthermore, elected school board officials have a responsibility and a moral obligation to do the right thing for ALL children in Rappahannock schools.
Situations like this are sad for all those involved. But, they are made even sadder when a loved and trusted foster parent doesn’t do the right thing.
