The down side?
Two questions come to mind:
• Won’t listing in the survey increase properties values and, thus, the taxes on the property?
Maybe. Listing on a survey of historic properties may or may not affect the market value of a property.
• Won't the county install regulations about how the property must be painted and maintained?
No, the property owner can still bum down his or her house, or paint it pink.
It is important to understand that the Department of Historic Resources seeks only to encourage historic preservation, not regulate it. Contract is awarded
DHR issued a request for proposals in late 2000 and awarded a contract in early 2001 to Traceries.
Of the 190 properties Traceries is documenting, some 140 are new properties and 50 are updates of properties that Mr. Edwards surveyed in 1983.
Traceries is also recording the locations of properties not surveyed that are 50 years or older.
When Traceries makes its final public presentation in midMarch, it will deliver a scripted slide presentation, ten copies of an Architectural Survey Report, and two CDs containing the final report.
Materials will be housed at the Rappahannock Historical
