Shenandoah National Park and the Shenandoah National Park Association announce the 2003 Field Seminar Series.
Field Seminars offer hands-on opportunities to learn about park and community resource issues. Participants spend time in the field with scientists, researchers and educators and explore topics of mutual interest.
Field Seminars provide an opportunity to explore the park with those who work, study and teach here.
“I enjoyed most being out in the field with people who could really explain what we were looking at,” said one former participant. People who attend these events can learn about preserving native plants, exploring wilderness and capturing the beauty of this region through photographs, art and writing.
This year’s Field Seminars cover a variety of topics:
• It’s About Trout, May 24 —Explore one of the park’s outstanding trout streams. Learn about factors affecting stream health as well as techniques for tying flies, casting and identifying good trout habitat. Cost: $30.
• Focus and Frame, June 7-8 —Join professional photographers Rob and Ann Simpson to learn the artistic and technical aspects of capturing nature on film during this two-day event. Cost: $70.
• Stories in the Rock, July 12—Robert Badger, author of Geology Along Skyline Drive, will explore the geologic story of Shenandoah National
