Environmental Quality Incentives program (EQIP) is available to farmers to help them conserve soil, water and related natural resources. The Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP) encourages development of wildlife habitat on private agricultural land for species such as the quail that have been disappearing from many rural localities.
Rappahannock County farmers have participated over the years in many of these agricultural programs, and have used state and federal funds to help pay for such practices.
State funds are currently available for the Rappahannock watershed area including cost share for agricultural producers in Rappahannock County who install certain BMPs.
