more rims in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to close out their scoring. Kyle Robinson had two hits and a walk and scored two runs for the Panthers.
The JV Baseball team had two games playing Page to a 0-0 tie in a game that was called because of darkness and dropping a 4-3 decision to Luray. The JV pitchers have been outstanding so far in the season. Dylan Corbin and Alex Sharp combined for the shut out against Page. Sharp and Will Miller handled the pitching chores against Luray.
The Varsity Boys’ Soccer team exploded in their season opener against Stonewall Jackson defeating the Generals 7-1. The match turned into the Ralph Pace Show as he scored five times for the Panthers. Jeremy Graves played very well in the goal for the team.
The Varsity Girls’ Soccer team also picked up their first win of the season, defeating Randloph-Macon Academy 2-1 in their home opener. Sara Hathaway got the team off on the right foot scoring early in the first half to give the team the momentum to go on for the win. Catilyn Waites was able to stop all but one of the Yellow Jackets shots on goal to preserve the win.
The Boys’ and Girls’ Track teams traveled to Luray in their first meet of the season. The boys finished third behind Luray and Eastern Mennonite but had some good performances. Ryan Brown was able to pick up wins in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Tymeyer Freeman had a second place finish in the discus while Tbrsten Hermansen and Nathan Welch had good efforts in the high jump. Kevin Martin had good races in the 1600 and 3200 meter races.
The girls placed second falling to Luray by six points but defeated Eastern Mennonite. Ryisha Cook won two sprint races, the 100 meters and 200 meters for the Panthers, and Mattie Nawrocki won both hurdle races, the 100 meter low hurdles and the 300 meter intermediate hurdles. Anna Kreyling and Lisa Maloney had good performances in the high jump and Sherri Woodward ran very well in 1600 meters and 3200 meters for the Lady Panthers. The Lady Panther 4 by 100 meter and 4 by 400 meter relay teams both posted victories for the team.
The spring teams hope to build on a very good first week of competition as the season continues.As the weather heats up the spring performances will hopefully heat up as well.
