After the Duke had properly welcomed the revelers, Lady Lynn announced this year’s “Queen of Love and Beauty” — Marguerite Beattie of Washington, Va., and, the “Squire of Worth” — Derek Perry of Rileyville (the girl and boy who maintained the highest grade point average in seventh grade British History).
Then the jousting and other tests of skill began in earnest. Games this year included Quarter Staff (Little John on the Bridge), Dowell Drop, Bean Bag Toss, Quintran (training for jousting) and the William Tell event, where students tested their skill at shooting an apple off the head of a dummy.
And for the smallest ones, there was face painting, courtesy of Art Teacher Marcy Lynn Lauben and several Wakefield seniors.
