Easement workshop
A conservation easement workshop for landowners will be held on Friday, April 4 from 2-4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Culpeper. Sponsored by the Piedmont Environmental Council, the speaker will be attorney C. Timothy Lindstrom, director of Protection for the Jackson Hole Land Trust in Jackson, Wyo. Registration is free. Casino Night on March 29
The third Annual Casino Night will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 7 p.m. at the Washington School on Mt. Salem Avenue. This elegant evening is a fundraiser for the Rappahannock County School Sports Association. Tickets are $30 each; $50 for a couple and include $i 0,000 in gaming money to play with, soft drinks and heavy hor d’oeuvres. A cash bar is available. Book signing March 28
Judith Richards Hope joins the growing list of Rappahannock County authors with her newly published book, “Pinstripes & Pearls: The Women of the Harvard Law School Class of ‘64 Who Forged an Old-Girl Network and Paved the Way for Future Generations." Hope, who has a home near Flint Hill and practices law in Washington, D.C., will discuss and sign her new book at the Old Sperryville Bookshop on Friday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. For reservations, call 987-8444.
Treasures of the county
Henry Glassie, an authority on the historic architecture of Virginia, will speak and present a slide show on “Farmhouses and other Treasures of Rappahannock County,” on Sunday, April 6. The program, free and open to the public, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in the Town of Washington. It is sponsored by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, the Piedmont Environmental Council and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Glassie, a professor at the University of Indiana, is a proponent of rural preservation and has written books on historic housing design and development. For information, call 987-8504.

Dog food, supplies needed
Cadette Girl Scout Troop #590 is sponsoring a drive for the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL). It needs canned dog food (no dried), dog bones, chew toys, towels, shampoo, leashes and collars. The scouts request that supplies for dogs be placed in the RAWL boxes at the Rappahannock Farmers’ Coop, Hackley’s Store, Horse & Hound and Settle's Grocery. Envelopes are available at these sites for monetary donations.
Hearthstone’s auction
Hearthstone School’s annual Hootenanny will become a Hoot ‘n Auction on April 12 at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington fire hall, with a between-set auction of high quality goods and services joining the musical performances. A highlight will be a bachelor auction of some of Rappahannock’s most eligible men. Persons who have items and services to donate, and interested bachelors, should call the school at 987-9212, or Diane Bardwell at 987-8553. Suggested donation will be $7 at the door.
