Founded in 1939 by local citizens concerned about soil and water conservation, the Culpeper SWCD serves Culpeper, Greene, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock Counties.
The district is a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia working in partnership with federal employees of the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the USDA to encourage voluntary use of management practices that make effective use of local resources while protecting water quality and preventing erosion.
Rappahannock County is represented on the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation Board of Directors by Directors Dick McNear and Monira Rifaat. Ms. Rifaat was recently appointed to the board.
