Last week's storm
Last week however, despite worrisome weather forecasts, the county suffered little.
"We kind of dodged the bullet," said County Administrator John McCarthy earlier this week.
McCarthy said that no bridges or roadways were lost due to high waters. No vehicles were stranded and no one s home was destroyed by the storm's winds.
Many predicted , that Isabel would be much worse and with reason. In 1955 Diane and Connie plowed up the east coast on a similar course, with the latter leaving 19 inches of rain in some locations. Isabel, which was expected to further saturate Rappahannock with 12 inches, dropped a mere five.
