The seven musicians who make up the young ensemble known as “CuBop” will bring a different sound in jazz to the Theatre at Little Washington on Gay Street when they perform on Saturday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m.
Randall Kremer of the Smithsonian Institution describes CuBCp as . one of the most exciting new groups on the East Coast jazz scene.” He adds, “they have become a favorite at the Smithsonian’s I-Max Jazz Cafe.”
CuBop explains that its unique sound is based on a “desire to explore the vast musical possibilities of all the different cultures which come together under the umbrella of Latin or Latin jazz.”
They approach this music with a “‘western’ voice, using the instrumentation of a jazz ensemble augmented with congas, timbales, bongos, bells, etc., playing compositions in Afro-Cuban or Brazilian styles.”
