The group comprises Luis Hernandez, tenor saxophone; Tim Stanley, trumpet/flugelhom; Dan Drew, trombone/arranger; Mike Whittaker, piano/keyboards; James Fowler, acoustic and electric basses; Felix Contreras, congas/percussion; and Joe McCarthy, leader/drums/bells/ timbale/clave.
All talented and professional musicians, most members of the group play with the U. S. Naval Academy Band, or with the U. S. Navy Band.
Joe McCarthy, founder and leader of CuBop, along with Fowler and Contreras, recently recorded a CD with the Larry Brown Quartet (The Long Goodbye), which received a Whammy for best jazz album of the year. ,
