Event organizer Brian Ross felt certain that neither Hurricane Isabel’s aftermath, nor Saturday’s less than sunny skies could keep crowds away from this year’s Eighth Annual Rappahannock Music Festival in Sperryville.
The two-day event, which takes place at the end of each summer, was expected to draw 300-400 people to listen to free local bands that were performing behind Mountainside Market last Saturday and Sunday, Ross said.
And for some in the crowd, the event is more than free music. It’s a time to catch up with old friends, something which they come back for year after year.
“We’ve been coming here since we were like five,” said Kiaya Abernathy, 14, a student at Hearthstone School in Sperryville.
Her favorite parts of the day, she said, are “(listening to) the music and just hanging out.”
