Since the Board of
Supervisors refused to continue funding the Rappahannock Express, concerned citizens have offered donations to keep the bus running. At first, the bus company was willing to work with this new group, quickly dubbed “Friends of The Rappahannock Express.”
Unfortunately, the short sightedness of our Board of Supervisors caused the State of Virginia to withdraw its financial grant. So, the Rappahannock Express will discontinue service on Sept. 30 after a short five-month trial and 848 riders as of Sept. 2.
Now, your federal and state tax dollars will go to pay for community transportation services in another county other than Rappahannock.
Within three weeks of changing the schedule from fixed point pick-ups around the county to entirely “on demand service,” the dispatch office received 102 calls inquiring how one could be picked up and dropped off at destinations within the county and the towns of Warrenton and Culpeper.
