The Piedmont United Way Campaign for this year gets underway in September. Four counties, Rappahannock, Culpeper, Madison and Fauquier make up the Piedmont United Way, and over the years hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated by citizens of these counties to help those in need.
More than $400,000 has been allocated to health and human service agencies for this year in the counties and this year’s total goal is $550,000.
In Rappahannock, Piedmont United Way Board members Marie Davis, who has taken the late E. Franklin Warner’s position on the Board, and Helen Williams, are urging citizens to dig deeply and contribute to the campaign.
Healthy Families Rappahannock and Starfish received funding last year, and many other Rappahannock residents have been helped through agencies in other counties. Meals for the elderly, shelters for the homeless and programs for young people are only some of the needs that this United Way meets. V The campaign has not always been very well publicized in Rappahannock County, according to Davis and Williams.
