Please consider who in your neighborhood needs your help • getting to doctor’s appointments, physical therapy, picking up cars that have been repaired, food shopping, gift and holiday shopping, visiting friends and family, and all the things those who happen to be able to drive use their cars for numerous times every day.
A great big thank you for all those who support a transportation system to meet the many needs of this county. Perhaps we can be more thoughtful and outspoken the next time we have a great opportunity, especially one like this. Because of federal and state grants, it cost us only 25 percent of the normal running costs. Perhaps next time we can give it the full year that transit authorities agree is needed to enable the bus system to establish itself. Perhaps the numerous groups who found it helpful for promoting tourism will return when the bias comes back.
“Friends” will weigh the possibility of applying for the grants again in February. At this point, the earliest the bus could begin running again is October 2004.
