National Geographic photographer Chris Johns will present an illustrated lecture on Africa on Friday Sept. 26 in the Rappahannock County High School auditorium. Don't miss the Middle Street Gallery's 20th Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. Thanks to friends and patrons this gallery is the longest running art gallery in Rappahannock County, all through the efforts of volunteers. There will be food, refreshments., live music and guest speakers at the celebration in Little Washington. Artists have donated original pieces of art to be raffled off and guests will receive a free raffle ticket the night of the event. The show runs from Friday, Sept. 26 through Sunday, Sept. 28. Coates reunion on Sunday
The Coates Reunion will be held at the Rappahannock Recreation Center on Sunday. Sept. 28. Dinner will be served at 2 p.m. Come bring your family and favorite dish and we will have a great time.
New show at Packing Shed
Pat Cook of Waynesboro and Betty Calabria of Bridgewater will show new works at the Packing Shed Gallery in Little Washington from Oct. 2 through Oct. 27. Cook captures connections and intimate moments of communication in her series, “Conversations." Calabria expresses, in metal sculpture and painting, a dance of line and shape inspired by her reflections on human endeavor The gallery is open Thursday-Mondays from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments may be made with gallery director June Jordan at (540) 9878098.
Free tutoring for students
Trinity Church is offering free tutoring for any student in Rappahannock County. The program will begin on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall and will run every Thursday. Each tutoring session will last 20-30 minutes and parents will be required to wait during the session. If possible call ahead for a tutoring time. Cheese reception at library
On Oct. 3 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Rucker Farm will host an end of the cheese season' reception at the Rappahannock County Library, with an open discussion on traditional nutrition and living in context with seasonal resources. For more information call Heidi at 675-3444.
Sharp Rock’s wine festival
Sharp Rock Vineyards is having its 6th Annual Wine Festival on Saturday, Oct. 4 from noon to 5 p.m. rain or shine. A large tent and other facilities are available in case of inclement weather. The new 2002 Sharp Rock Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay Reserve will be released for the first time. A festival entry fee of $10 includes a wine glass, { tasting seven wines, a full glass of wine and Bluegrass music by Blades of Grass. Special gourmet foods will be available.
