speak out

With three of five seats up for grabs in this year’s School Board election many are wondering when the candidates stand on issues.
Headwaters, in an attempt to provide residents with a better sense of this information, sponsored a forum last Thursday evening at tin Rappahannock County Library.
Seven candidates were on hand to share their views on the strengths and weaknesses of Rappahannoc k's school system, as well as their vision for the schools’ curriculum.
Meredith Gorfein and Jim Oyster, both vying to represent the Hampton District, were among those on tin , panel.
Gorfein said she has lived in'the county with her husband for . years. She has a master’s degree Fine Arts from Boston Univers e and said she has taught high school English.
While Gorfein and her husband have no children she nonetheless feels that education of the county's children is important.
“I have always been very interesi ed and passionate about education in spite of the fact that I have no children. There’s no more important thing that I can be doing or my tax dollars can be doing,” she said.
