October 6-10 marked another successful week for the Rappahannock County High School volleyball teams. Both teams improved their records with the JV team now standing at 7-3 (2-2 in the Bull Run district) and the Varsity team finishing the week at 13-1 (4-0 in the district).
On Thursday, RCHS hosted district rival Strasburg. In varsity play, Strasburg and Rappahannock, both undefeated in the district, were hoping to go home with a win and the number one spot.
With excellent serving, recording 10 aces, the Panthers won the first game 25-13. Strasburg, determined to claim the number one spot, won the next two games, 25-21 and 25-23.
Strasburg jumped ahead 6-2 in the fourth game. Rappahannock, the defending district champions, would not give up. The Panthers tied the score at 10 all. Rappahannock then had a six point nm to gain a 16-10 lead. Strasburg slowly chipped away at Rappahannock’s lead.
With the score tied 21 all, Rappahannock regained the serve. RCHS was able to score four consecutive points to win the game 25-21 and push the match to a fifth deciding game.
