Donna Kevis who stressed from the start that she has always been an enthusiastic supporter of Sunnvside said, “We must look at the question of signs in the context of Historical’ Little Washington. The signs are attractive and very clever but do you really need that many signs?”
She concluded that she "strongly supports what the Cole's have done but ‘enough is enough.’
"Tb a greater degree," she cautioned, “you must be more sensitive to what you are doing. It has become too much of a good thing.”
Tbwards the end of the session, Buddy Darden, an architect from Flint Hill and a member of the audience, suggested that there might be room for compromise to resolve this issue.
O’Connell and other* members of the board promptly picked up on this idea and a compromise was agreed upon. A number of ARB members felt that the trellises were originally presented as a “thing of beauty . . . with vines softening the effect of these large architectural elements," but in fact they have become an “apparatus for hanging large signs not contemplated originally.”
