Those seeking a longer hike can lengthen this trail by adding the Dickey Hill Loop to the walk. This brings the total time required for completion to 2 1/2 hours.
Another equally accessible trail, said park official Brooke Downing, is the Limber Lost trail, the park’s handicap accessible trail. This path, she said, includes minimal slope. It is covered in cinder and is wheel chair accessible.
The hike, which is near Mile Post 43, South of the Park’s 211 entrance, winds through a former Hemlock Forest recently damaged by the Hemlock wolly adelgid, a predator of the trees.
