Rappahannock County has many back roads of gravel that look as they did in the late 1800s and early 1900s, but with better road surfaces. They are usually somewhat narrow, winding and many contain a tree canopy providing cool shade in the summer.
A new program called the Rural Rustic Road Program aims to keep this traditional niral lane ambience, while improving the road surface within the current right-of-way and not removing trees and other vegetation along edges of the road. Safety, as always, will be the first consideration.
VDOT will provide the public with information on its new Rural Rustic Road Program on Oct. 24 during a special presentation sponsored by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection. The program is from 7:30 to 9:30
