And he has logged over 2,000 hours searching through cemeteries, looking for gravestones or other information that might indicate the person buried there served in the Confederate Army.
“I have found about 10 to 12 confirmed as Union,” he adds.
Godfrey was born in Fauquier County and has lived there all his life. He has three known great-great-grandfathers buried there out of at least 18 relatives who fought for the Confederacy.
