fundraiser suddenly took a turn when one of the men faced potential criminal charges for being naked on a motorcycle on public property.
The rumor mill in the county began working overtime^ some parents reacted with shock and disbelief upon hearing about the calendar—and shortly thereafter on Sept. 9, the School Board issued a statement it didn t want anything to do with it.
Furthermore, it threatened legal action if the "friends of the track mentioned any reference to Rappahannock Schools or the track in their fundraising.
Six days earlier, the day of the first photo shoot on Sept. 3, Peter Kreyling rode Paul Gall's antique Harley Davidson motorcycle wearing boots and nothing else on Grand View Avenue in Tiger Valley at 7:30 a.m. Photographer Bechtold, hanging out the back of a Ford Explorer driven by Kreyling's wife, Cathy, shot photos of Kreyling driving the motorcycle on the dead end road. Some residents heard the noise, saw the photo shoot and before too long, a deputy showed up at the scene inquiring, "Where’s your helmet?"
The deputy took information, gave it to the Sheriff and it was up to Commonwealths Attorney Peter Luke to decide whether to prosecute. After reviewing the information, Luke decided not to do so.
"I decided not to press any criminal charges against Peter,” said Luke. "He sent a letter of apology to the residents and acknowledged he used poor judgment in what he did. I don't think he'll do it again.
"It was misguided. . .but there were good intentions for a charity."
Luke explained that "if a person wants to ride on his own property naked as a jaybird, that's not the state's concern. But when it is on public property it is the state's concern."
When the Rappahannock County School Board learned about the fundraiser, it acted as if it didn t want to get near it.
