Owens says, “Due to the recent lack of impediment, a number of fish such as shad, and herring have been spotted in areas they have not been seen in for a long time ”
Owens stressed that the finding of the sea lamprey in Rappahannock should not alarm anyone. “It is part of a natural system, and not anything to fear. Before the dam was built, anadromous fish came up past the Embrey Dam and they will again. It is simply one of nature’s marvels.”
