Goodwill, great food and a
lifetime of memories marked the 50th anniversary celebration of the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company on May 8.
Undeterred by a loss of electricity due to the previous night’s storm, Ladies Auxiliary members arrived mid-day to begin the preparations, determined to carry out the evening’s festivities by available daylight if needed. Company members rigged up a few emergency lights to help the decorators, cooks and potato peelers complete their work until power returned late in the afternoon.
Soon a spirited crowd of members, past and present, mingled happily with special guests, conversations brimming with the triumphs and challenges that punctuated decades of service. Most enjoyed more than one trip to a banquet table filled with chicken, ham, delicious accompaniments and two kinds of anniversary cake before settling in for a recognition program filled with surprises.
