the building of the old Laurel Mills Bridge. This steel bridge was built in the late 1920s. There has been a picture circulating in the community for a long time that shows the steel bridge nearing completion and many people have copies.
The picture we obtained shows the beginning of the construction. In the image, there are 15 workers lined up on the edge of the river. They are laying the stone work that was under each end of the old bridge. Tb set these large three foot square stones they are pictured using an unusual looking wood pole crane apparatus. This wood boom looks to have about a 10 inch pulley on the end. It had a wire rope
