Suspicious event

Another entry in the Sheriff’s log was a call that came in on Sunday, May 17, at three minutes past midnight, and was listed as a “suspicious event.”

A local woman had called to report that her husband had not returned home, and she had not seen or talked with him since 7:30 p.m., when he said he was on his way home. According to the woman, her husband had no medical condition that might explain his lateness, and nothing like this “had happened before.”

The Sheriff”s department was still searching for the man at 3 a.m., checking local area hospitals. The department contacted the man's wife at 4:57 a.m. to report that .here was still no word of his whereabouts and the woman was advised to fill out a Missing Persons’ Report. The Sheriff”s department searched Sperryville for the man, without results.

Finally, at 5:25 a.m. Monday, the woman called the Sheriff’s Office to report that her husband had returned home, and “had fallen asleep in his car.”
