merits and writings distributed during the recent Town Council campaign violate state election laws. Council member Ray Gooch, obviously distraught, brought up the issue which led to the decision to investigate. Council member Newbill Miller said, “The election is over. We do not need to perpetuate the upheaval in the town of Washington.” Mayor Dean Morehouse said, “I was disappointed in some of the materials that were sent around. I think it needs to be fairly examined. People need to be responsible for their actions.” Mayor Morehouse, Mr. Gooch, Susan Parrish and Brad Fisher voted for the motion; Janice Moffet and Mark Bailey abstained; and Mr. Miller voted against it. Auctioneer Bill Payne helped the Lions Club raise $2,482 for county service projects at the annual auction at the Washington Fire Hall Saturday.
